Boys team defeated Independence while the girls beat Stafford.

The Patrick Henry boys basketball team beat Stone Bridge 75-63 on Tuesday to clinch the Region 5D championship.

William Fleming's Amari Worsham dropped 21 points for the second consecutive game.

Amari Worsham led the Colonels with 21 points, including the game winner as time expired.

Patriots trailed 14-7 at halftime.

William Byrd defeated Carroll Co. in the opening round of the Region 3D Boys tournament.

With the win, the Patriots qualify for the VHSL Class 5 State Tournament.

Girls Lacrosse: Patrick Henry 18, Albemarle 4

In girls lacrosse action, Patrick Henry defeated Stafford 21-1 in the Region 5D Semifinals. Savannah Derey netted 8 goals, Emma Kate Greer had 6 in the victory. The Patriots will now face Albemarle in the Region 5D Final on Thursday.

Patrick Henry’s season came to a close on Friday night.

ROANOKE, Va. – Coming into the night fifth in Region 5D standings with only four teams qualifying this season, William Fleming needed a win. With a decisive 42-0 victory and a loss by Harrisonburg, it’s likely the two teams will flip flop. Fleming certainly won’t be able to coast into the postseason as the Colonels wrap the regular season campaign against Franklin County.

ROANOKE, Va. – Patrick Henry raced to a 20-5 advantage in the first quarter that was dominated by Savannah Derey. Though the shots didn’t fall at the rate that they would’ve liked, the Patriots remained tenacious at the defensive end. “We didn’t shoot the ball very well tonight but, we played really hard and refused to lose,” said Patrick Henry head coach Mike Hedrick. “[We] survived and advanced and now we have the opportunity to play for the final four, maybe the opportunity to maybe play for state title and that’s why we do this. The Patrick Henry boys will also host a Class 5 State Semifinal on Wednesday at 7pm when Stone Bridge comes to the Star City.

Over at Patrick Henry, the Region 5D finals were underway, Patriots facing the William Fleming Colonels. Patrick Henry the victor, winning 66-65, and claiming back-to-back region titles. ROANOKE, Va. – For the second time in as many years, the Region 5D final is an all Roanoke affair. William Fleming flogged Potomac 79-43 while Patrick Henry defeated Brooke Point 53-39. In other girls action Friday night, Carroll Co. won the 4D title over Pulaski Co. by a 44-36 score. On the boys side, Jefferson Forest needed overtime to outlast GW Danville 61-54 for the boyd 4D title. In the 5D boys tournament, Patrick Henry was eliminated on the road by a 67-64 score at Potomac.
