A Christiansburg movie theater is getting a fancy new addition!

ROANOKE, Va. – Movie lovers, Regal has some good news for you! After a little over a year of being closed to prevent coronavirus spread, Regal Theaters announced it’s reopening its theaters in our region starting May 14. Lynchburg will see its theater at River Ridge open on that date, with Christiansburg and Roanoke having their Regal theaters open a week later on May 21. While Regal is starting to open its theaters, Roanoke’s two AMC theaters have already been open and are open three days a week on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. AdSimilar to Regal, AMC requires moviegoers to wear a mask at all times unless eating, and seating capacities are limited to meet state and local mandate requirements.

Cineworld Group Plc said Monday that it would close 536 Regal cinemas in the U.S. and 127 Cineworld and Picturehouse venues in the U.K. this week, affecting some 45,000 employees. Last week groups representing theater owners, movie studios and directors issued a plea to U.S. lawmakers to provide relief to ailing movie theaters. Cineworld had also been highly leveraged, having largely funded its acquisition of Regal Entertainment in 2018 through debt. Greidinger hopes that that might be settled before Christmas, in time for “Wonder Woman 1984.”“I will be the happiest man to open the cinemas for ‘Wonder Woman," he said. “But we will also need to look beyond ‘Wonder Woman’ to January and February.”

ROANOKE, Va. – Movie lovers, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel: Regal announced its plan for reopening theaters starting on July 10. The plans include new safety and health procedures from the CDC and other public health organizations, according to the company. In addition to the ability to buy tickets in advance using the Regal app, guests can buy concession items from the app. Employees will sanitize every auditorium and seat after each movie using electrostatic ‘fogger’ equipment, which the company said is effective in disinfecting all materials with a non-toxic formula that is fast drying.
