The Blue Ridge Parkway is finally back open after Helene - and it’s just in time for peak fall season. At Peaks of Otter, they say the month of October keeps the guests rolling in.

The National Park Service announced Thursday that the Blue Ridge Parkway from milepost 0 to milepost 198 in Virginia will re-open at 8 a.m. Friday.

The project spans 24 miles and will include closures over the next 3 years.

Nestled between Roanoke and Lynchburg, Bedford County has nearly doubled its population over the last 20 years.

The Pie Lady has a new home in the small town with the help of Black Dog Salvage. Ginny Barkett is known as the pie lady and this lady now has a fancy new shop to work out of. Right on the corner of Main Street in Fincastle, the once town pharmacy that has sat empty for years now has new purpose. It was crazy, we were making like hundreds of pies a week, said Will Barkett, The Pie Shoppe chef. Its a unique space in Fincastle they hope will make the small town even more of a destination.

BEDFORD, Va. – Sharp Top Trail at Peaks of Otter is a 3 mile out and back hike that is frequented by many in the area! The initial ascend it pretty steep, a sign warns to wear suitable hiking footwear. About midway up, the trail turns pretty rocky, with stone stairs helping out the incline. Alas you’ll find yourself with the option to go left to Sharp Top or right to Buzzards Roost. You can climb on top of the rocks to see a nice 360 and look up at the Sharp Top peak as well.
