Congo’s government says the mausoleum of assassinated independence leader Patrice Lumumba has been vandalized.

The remains of Congo’s independence hero and first Prime Minister Patrice Lumumba were laid to rest in Kinshasa Thursday amid honors including a procession through the capital, military salutes and music in front of thousands of people.

Belgian authorities have returned a gold-capped tooth of the slain Congolese independence hero Patrice Lumumba.

If such a test had been done it would have destroyed the tooth itself, he said. A Belgian parliamentary probe later determined that the government was morally responsible for Lumumbas death. However, Belgian authorities say they only have recovered one tooth, which will soon be returned to his family.
