At about 5:15 p.m., a gray 2016 Range Rover was going west on West Main Street, making a left turn onto Park Avenue when it hit a 2015 Yamaha scooter going east on West Main Street. 61-year-old Peggie Nester was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she later died, according to police. The driver of the Range Rover, Sam Sakellaris, 66, did not sustain any injuries and is charged with failure to yield on a left turn. Police are still investigating the crash.
