A local animal shelter is offering rewards in two separate cases of animal abuse in three days. A $1,000 reward is being offered for a dog brought to the Danville Area Humane Society on Monday. The person who brought it in said they saw it get thrown out of a car. On Saturday, eight cats, including four kittens, were brought in after they were found in a closed tote outside a restaurant in Danville. A $1,000 reward is also being offered and PETA is offering an additional $5,000.

"I'm looking for changes that will continue the momentum of getting animals out of laboratories," McCartney said. "Experiments on animals are unethical -- they're a colossal failure and a waste of time and money.

On Thursday morning, the organization filed a request with the U.S. Department of Agriculture to cancel the Animal Welfare Act exhibitor license held by SeaQuest. PETA's letter claims that SeaQuest has violated federal, state and local laws pertaining to cruelty, transportation, ownership, neglect or welfare of animals, which gives the USDA the right to revoke the license. State officials suspended the location's state permit after a series of state law and permit violations. "PETA is calling on the USDA to yank this cruel petting zoo's license," said PETA Foundation Director of Captive Animal Law Enforcement Brittany Peet.

In a letter published by PETA, McCartney asked Texas A&M University President Michael Young to halt muscular dystrophy research with golden retrievers and release them for adoption. The dogs, PETA said, were bred with the canine muscular dystrophy gene and held in metal cells. Texas A&M University did not immediately respond to a request for comment. There's currently not a cure for muscular dystrophy, the Mayo Clinic said.
