Usually, during carnival, there are parties, the person who finds the baby in their piece of cake is king for the day, hosts the next party and brings the king cake. Our Daily Bread has been baking king cakes the Mardi Gras season for years while this is the very first year Evie’s Bistro and Bakery in Roanoke is getting in on the celebration. Mardi Gras is Tuesday, February 16th and it just isn't Mardi Gras without the King Cake.

A business in Salem will remain closed for at least two weeks after the bakerys owner tested positive for the coronavirus. Danielle Shumate, who, along with her husband, owns Our Daily Bread Bakery in Salem, tested positive after being tested before attempting to start fertility treatment. All other employees have either been tested or have been in contact with their primary care physicians. I would hate to have been a carrier and not know, but as a business weve taken all the precautions from the being with cleaning and everything, but wear your mask its so important, said Danielle Shumate. The bakery will remain closed until at least July 7.
