ROANOKE, Va. – The third time is typically the charm, but not for the William Fleming girls on Tuesday night. They faced off with cross-town rival Patrick Henry for the third time this season, this time in the Region 5D Semifinals. Back at the home of the Colonels, the William Fleming boys had no problems with Albemarle-- coming away with a 61-21 victory. Lord Botetourt defeated Carroll County 86-46, advancing to the Region 3D Semifinals. They will play at Northside, which defeated William Byrd Tuesday night.

SALEM, Va. – The Maroons were missing the dynamic duo of former Northside standouts Kasey Draper and Nick Price for its season opener against Greensboro College. But it gave others on the roster a chance to step up and for much of the night they did. Tripp Greene opened the game scoring 2 of the Maroons first 3 buckets, finishing the game with 11 points. It proved to be a back-and-forth affair in the first half that led to a 1 point halftime lead for The Pride. A layup from Trent Dawson gave Roanoke a 51-50 lead but Greensboro hit clutch shots down the stretch, securing a 67-61 win.

It only took one game of his freshman season for former Northside soccer star Daniel Pereira to prove why he would be an asset at Virginia Tech. The midfielder tied the team in assists with 5 and finished third on the team in goals with 5. “That was the most challenging, traveling, soccer, it was just a lot. There’s two sides, two conferences, we have to be top-four so I’m looking to that for now. We make it to that, and win the ACC,” Periera said.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. – UPDATEA social media threat that sparked an increased police presence at Northside High School Friday turned out to not be against the school, according to Roanoke County Public Schools. School officials and local authorities determined that the threat that was posted “falsely attached Northside to the message.”Authorities say they have identified the suspect behind the threat and say they are working with them to ensure the safety of the school community. While officials say the threat was not against Northside, there will still be an increased police presence at the school Friday. ROANOKE, Va. – Another honor for longtime Northside head boys basketball coach Bill Pope. The Roanoke County school board voted Thursday night to name Northside's gym after the veteran coach who has won more than 500 games in a 33-year coaching career, including the school's first boys basketball state championship this season. The county policy is to not honor an individual in this way until they are no longer a part of the school system for one year. The policy was not changed, but an exception was made for coach Pope.

ROANOKE, Va. – For the second time in three years the Vikings of Northside will play for the VHSL Class 3 title. And after surviving another VHSL gauntlet, Coach Bill Pope says his team is used to the "go big or go home" mentality. You know that we have to come out and play or it ends, that's how it works, so. The 27-1 Vikings will face Phoebus Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Siegel Center on the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University. Northside is led by 6-7 James Madision signee Julien Wooden, who scored 36 points in the Vikings' state semifinal win over Cave Spring.

RICHMOND (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - The Northside boys basketball team came up short against IC Norcom in the VHSL 3A boys state championship game losing 51-41. IC Norcom set a VHSL record by winning four consecutive state titles. Last years state runner-up Magna Vista returned to the state title game. The Lady Warriors fell to Broadway 51-41 in the final.

Roanoke (WSLS-10 SPORTS)- William Fleming and Northside were tied entering the fourth quarter at 45 all. But the Colonels would pull away for a hard fought 70-62 win in Blue Ridge District play. On the girls side, Pulaski handled Patrick Henry 57-40 on Friday night.
