The deodorant brand plans to make a "tangible commitment" to the team's demand for equal pay, it told CNN Business, contributing $529,000 to the US Women's National Team Players Association. "We urge the US Soccer Federation to be a beacon of strength and end gender pay inequality once and for all." Secret has released several ads promoting equal pay for women, including one with USWNT player Alex Morgan earlier this year.

But William's appearance on the upcoming August cover of Harper's Bazaar is noteworthy because the photos are unretouched. It's seen many female celebrities sharing makeup-free photos of themselves on social media or appearing in magazine photoshoots with the pictures unretouched. The French Tennis Federation's president later introduced a new dress code which banned such form-fitting clothes at the tennis tournament. Williams seemed to brush off that dress code controversy, but many of her fans -- including some famous ones -- called the move sexist.

Minutes after the USWNT won its second consecutive Women's World Cup championship and its fourth overall Nike aired a 60-second ad in honor of the victory. The ad centers on the concept that the USWNT's win is about more than just winning a soccer title. The ad ends with a shot of the USWNT holding up the World Cup trophy, and concluding words flash across the screen: "This team wins. The US national team's World Cup journey has been lucrative for Nike, which sells the team's jerseys.

(CNN) - A Chicago Cubs minor league affiliate apologized for and deleted a tweet mocking former NFL quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick. If it did, we certainly apologize," the Tennessee Smokies tweeted Wednesday. The Cubs' AA affiliate, which has 38,000 followers on Twitter, is based near Knoxville. It was a reference to shoes featuring the flag that Nike was set to release for the Fourth of July. "If we're in a political environment where the American flag has become controversial to Americans, I think we've got a problem," he said at an event in Kentucky.

(CNN) - A veteran-owned company is facing off against Nike again, this time over a Revolutionary War-era flag. Tyler Merritt, is releasing "Betsy Ross" flag t-shirts after Nike decided to recall shoes featuring the same design. The special-edition Air Max 1s featured the "Betsy Ross" flag, a design created during the American Revolution with a circle of 13 white stars for the 13 original states. Nine Line Apparel, which calls itself a company "by patriots for patriots," has gone after Nike and Kaepernick before. We say just stand -- stand for your beliefs and for your country," he said.

"Nike has chosen not to release the Air Max 1 Quick Strike Fourth of July as it featured an old version of the American flag," Nike said in a statement to CNN Business. The website included photos of a shoe that featured a version of the American flag with 13 stars organized in a circle and 13 stripes. That version of the flag, according to the Smithsonian, was used in the United States from 1777 to 1795. In May, according to footwearnews.com, Nike canceled an Air Force 1 sneaker after an indigenous group in Panama objected to its design.

(CNN) - Nike has stopped selling some products in China after a fashion designer's support for protests in Hong Kong sparked a social media backlash. "We have withdrawn from China a small number of products that were designed by a collaborator," a Nike spokesperson told CNN Business. Chinese retailer YY.com said in a statement on its official social media account that it would not stock Undercover x Nike Daybreak shoes after "an urgent notice issued by the Nike brand." Undercover faced sharp criticism over recent comments about Hong Kong protests against a controversial bill that would have allowed the extradition of criminal suspects to mainland China. Some social media users in mainland China expressed outrage over the post.
