In an electric night in Cassell in front of a record-breaking 5,943 crowd, the No. 8 Virginia Tech wrestling team defeated conference rivals the No. 5 NC State Wolfpack, 16-14. The Hokies won six out of ten bouts – including the highlighted return of No. 6 Bryce Andonian – to begin 1-0 in conference competition.

King finished with 12 points, Georgia Amoore added eight points and seven assists and Azana Baines scored seven points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Virginia scored 14 consecutive points after going down 24-0 to NC State early in the game. That set up his first career touchdown pass to wide receiver Billy Kemp IV (Highland Springs, Va.). NC State scored again when it returned an interception for a touchdown. The Cavaliers attempted an onside kick, but it was recovered by NC State.
