In addition, his senior class has three River Ridge District titles and 2 Region 5D titles. Hedrick’s ability to shape talent is not lost either, he has sent multiple athletes to play at the collegiate level.

The Patrick Henry girls have become a mainstay in the Class 5 elite. This is a great generation if you show them you love them. Hedrick and the PH girls are an astounding 72-22 over the past four seasons. The Class 5 State Final vs seven-time defending champ Princess Anne is set for 5 pm Saturday at Patrick Henry High School.

Starting with Class 5 girls action, Patrick Henry dispatched visiting Potomac Falls 61-37 to advance to the program’s first state final. “Very blessed to have the players I have, very lucky to have Savannah Derey here for every game I’ve ever coached,” Hedrick explained. AdIn Pulaski County, the girls basketball Region D champions hosted Loudon Valley, who won the Region C title. In girls Class 2 action, Glenvar had a tall task in trying to topple defending Class 2 Champion Gate City.

The Patrick Henry boys will also host a Class 5 State Semifinal on Wednesday at 7pm when Stone Bridge comes to the Star City.

In a congratulatory tweet, Hedrick calls an NCAA D-2 scholarship to Virginia State ‘a life changer.’ The 6-0 senior post will be heading to compete in the CIAA. The Patriots are coming off their first ever trip to the VHSL final 4. They’ve put together back-to-back region championships and Wright has been right in the middle of it all.

And since Mike Hedrick became head coach, that’s all the Patrick Henry girls basketball team has done. Hedrick says the girls have bought into the “Be Better” philosophy on and off the court. If you do it one time, maybe it’s luck, but we’ve done it 3 years in a row and every year we’ve gotten better, beaten better competition,” Hedrick said. Patrick Henry will host Highland Springs at William Fleming High School in Roanoke on Tuesday night.

On the boys side, defending state champ GW Danville advanced to their third final 4 in four years with a 63-55 win over Loudon County. Halifax County fell to Millbrook 61-58. In Class 1, Grundy edges Parry McCluer 49-46, while Auburn vs Eastside scheduled for UVA-Wise was moved to Saturday because of snow. Honaker defeated George Wythe 65-59 and PH Glade Spring downs Galax 51-30.and in Class 1 Grundy beat Parry McCluer 49-46.
