Feeding Southwest Virginia president Pamela Irvine said it’s hard to believe they’ve been at it for 40 years. It’s hard to pick one defining moment, but when things go south Feeding Southwest Virginia is always there to help make sure no one goes hungry. Show creator Michael Hemphill made the request to light the tower and said featuring Feeding Southwest Virginia in the show is a no-brainer. While Irvine can’t predict the future, she does know Feeding Southwest Virginia will continue to be needed.

Roanoke man starts TV series, Buzz, to showcase local nonprofits
Read full article: Roanoke man starts TV series, Buzz, to showcase local nonprofitsROANOKE, Va. A Roanoke man is creating some buzz to help out local nonprofits. Michael Hemphill created a new TV series called Buzz. He teamed up with marketing agencies in the Roanoke Valley to create the show to raise awareness about different nonprofits in the region, including RAM House, Mill Mountain Zoo, Southwest Virginia Ballet and Healing Strides. The goal is to showcase what they do for the community and to attract more donors and volunteers for their cause. You can also check out Buzz episodes on YouTube and at buzz4good.com. Hemphill is looking for more marketing agencies, episode sponsors and nonprofits to get on the show and would like to film and air more episodes this fall.

The student has been participating in virtual learning and has not been on school property since Aug. 20. A student at Grove Park Preschool who was last in the building on Nov. 24. Roanoke Catholic School is paying tribute to its Celtic roots while raising money during the 30th annual Shamrock Hill 5K, but this time it’s virtual and not happening St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. St. Patrick’s Day weekend 2020 was around the time large gatherings were getting canceled and the first guidelines were starting to be put in place. Roanoke Catholic School hosts virtual Shamrock Hill 5K after postponing the race twice. You can still dress up in costume, get a good run in and help raise money for Roanoke Catholic School.

Meanwhile, some private schools are planning to have kids attend school in-person five days a week. Private schools like Roanoke Catholic School and Faith Christian School said their plans are for things to feel as if almost nothing has changed. Faith Christian Head of School Peter Baur said the school is still enrolling for the fall, but theres already a waitlist for some grades. Since Faith Christian doesnt have school buses, socially distant transportation wont be an issue.
