Three council members Treney Tweedy, Mary Jane Dolan and Randy Nelson were nominated for the position. Of those three, Dolan, who previously served as vice mayor, was elected mayor. She was reelected to the council in May, winning 52% of the vote in her ward. Beau Wright will serve as the cityโs vice mayor.

In a public hearing Tuesday night that went into Wednesday morning, more than 120 people had time to talk to city council members about the issue. Council members voted 5 to 2 to not become a Second Amendment sanctuary. This is not going to happen again,โ said Curt Diemer, an organizer of Lynchburgโs Second Amendment sanctuary group. 10 News reached out to some council members for comment about the meeting.
