LEXINGTON, Va. – When the votes were counted Saturday evening, Senator Bernie Sanders was in first place with 405 more votes than runner up Joe Biden, who received 1,237 votes. The votes, however, were not the necessary 1,991 to win the nomination, requiring a second round of voting. “That was decided by a combination of my research and the political team’s research,” said, Washington & Lee student Garrett Allen, the convention’s Virginia state chairman. More than a year after being tapped as CEO of the embattled Dallas Mavericks, Cynthia Marshall says she has turned around the organization's culture and has greatly diversified its top ranks. Marshall was hired by owner Mark Cuban last year to transform the Mavericks after Sports Illustrated exposed a "corrosive workplace culture" at the organization. When Marshall was named CEO, none of the employees on the executive leadership team were women or people of color. She increased the diversity within the leadership team by promoting from within and recruiting from outside of the organization. Today, 50% of the executive leadership team are women and 47% are people of color.

Head coach Justin Fuente did not comment on the article directly Thursday but did address the challenge of overcoming the obstacles this team has faced. "They've been through adversity, and that can do one of two things. And when you go through hard times, either it separates you or brings you closer together," Fuente said.
