Lynchburg Police Chief Ryan Zuidema and Fire Chief Greg Wormser also had some advice for parents with young children. The 2018 data showed that 85% of sleep-related deaths in the state of Virginia were tied to infants who were sleeping on a couch, a bed or some other inappropriate sleep surface,โ Chief Wormser added. Other things to keep in mind: using a firm sleep surface with a firm crib mattress covered by a fitted sheet and checking regularly for product recalls.

The man made it out safely, but first responders had to make sure there was no one else in the truck. We had the camera in operations about a week and it worked pretty well, Turner said. The Amherst County Sheriff Office told 10 News the man driving the truck is OK and was charged with public intoxication.

At 7:14 a.m. Tuesday, officers responded to the jail for a report of an unresponsive man. When Kevin Tyler Caldwell was found, jail authorities performed CPR immediately until Lynchburg Fire Department medics and Lynchburg Police Department officers arrived, according to the Police Department. Caldwell was then transported to Lynchburg General Hospital and later pronounced dead at the hospital. The department recently received a state grant and are expecting Lynchburg City Council members to fund the other half at a Tuesday night council meeting. First responders said the monitors will help 85% of their patients.
