Dowell Bridge. Heโs just an amazing person,โ said Jordan Cindrick, an Amherst County Sheriffโs deputy who knew Dowell. Feb. 4th marked two years since Dowell was killed in a shootout while assisting with a drug-related warrant in Cumberland County. I wanted to get it going really quick, so I probably couldโve got double that if I kept going,โ said Martin. Thereโs also a bridge dedicated to Dowell near his hometown in Smyth County.

But Trooper Lucas Dowell is the exception. Trooper Lucas Dowell was a member of the Appomattox tactical team. Trooper Dowell will have another bridge dedicated in his memory near his hometown in Smyth County on Nov 1.

On Friday, at 2 p.m, at Amherst County High School, the South Main Street bridge over Route 29 will be dedicated to 28-year-old Trooper Lucas Dowell. A native of Chilhowie, Virginia, Dowell graduated from Radford University with a degree in criminal justice. He then graduated from the Virginia State Police Academy in November 2014.
