Individuals associated with the Jefferson Forest High School football team have a known exposure to a COVID-positive person, according to a school division spokesman. Due to this, Friday’s scheduled game between Jefferson Forest and Liberty Christian Academy is canceled. Also, the junior varsity game against LCA on Monday, March 8, is canceled as well. As part of VDH guidelines, all football practices have also been temporarily suspended.

According to the school’s Facebook page, the school is operating on a two-hour delay due to a power outage. Officials say the first bell will be at 10:15 a.m.Liberty University is also on a delayed opening and will open campus around 9 a.m. According to the Appalachian Power website, about 200 people have been affected by the outage.

Luke Pierce was diagnosed with bone cancer less than a year ago. His alma mater Liberty Christian Academy is holding a fundraiser called "Force for Luke" during their homecoming event this weekend. His former coach says all the money raised will go to the Pearson Cancer Center in Lynchburg. The homecoming game and pre-festivities are open to the public.
