One central Virginia county is paying it forward after they received help over 10 years ago when a historic east coast earthquake rocked their community. Now, Louisa County has set the example of supporting each other when tragedy hits.

RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia State Capitol Christmas tree lighting took place Wednesday evening in Richmond. Among the speakers at the event was Gov. The annual lighting was closed to the public this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s State Capitol Christmas tree is a 25-foot Norway Spruce donated by Claybrooke Farm in Louisa County in Central Virginia, as reported by WWBT. The event began at 5 p.m.

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. – A teenager faces 128 years in prison in connection with the 2019 murder of a man and malicious wounding of his wife in Louisa County, Virginia. As 10 News first reported in November 2019, the teenager shot an elderly couple outside of their home in Louisa County. The teenager told the couple “he had been watching them and knew they had money,” according to McGuire. McGuire said the teenager told the couple they would be fine. Several hours after the murder, police saw the teenager driving the couple’s car in Nelson County, according to McGuire.

NELSON COUNTY, Va. – Someone in Nelson County has the coronavirus, according to health department officials. At 4:11 p.m. Tuesday, the Thomas Jefferson Health District posted its latest coronavirus numbers. LOUISA CO., Va. – A minor 2.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Louisa, according to the United States Geological Survey. This isn’t too far from the 4.8 magnitude quake that happened in Mineral years ago. No damage or injuries were reported, as earthquakes of this magnitude tend to be weak. While it wasn’t felt in Roanoke, it was detected at the seismograph on Virginia Tech’s campus.

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. – A Virginia man will likely spend the rest of his life in prison after pleading guilty to rape and forcible sodomy of a child, as well as dozens of charges of creating child pornography. The Defendant made a mistake when he thought he could escape to Louisa County. Most predators know of the active Child Safety Initiative in Louisa County and stay away. She called their father and told him about the abuse and he promptly reported the crimes to the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office. Before his father turned in Harry, he made bond on the drug charge and moved his RV to Louisa County.

Authorities believe Lynch could be changing the tags of the car, so they want the public to focus on the car and who is inside. Authorities had a message for Bruce Lynch. Authorities say anyone who sees Hicks and Lynch should call police immediately and not approach them because they believe Lynch has a handgun.

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. - A Louisa County 14-year-old girl was last seen at 1 a.m. Monday, but it wasn't until shortly before 6 p.m. Friday that an Amber Alert was issued for Isabel Hicks. Why wasn't the Amber Alert issued sooner? Virginia State Police say they've been in contact with the Louisa County Sheriff's Office since Isabel went missing but says that all mandatory criteria for an Amber Alert were not met until Friday. When I reached out to the Sheriff's Office, I learned that the Sheriff's Office was finally able to obtain an abduction warrant on Lynch, which allowed the green light for the Amber Alert. The Sheriff's Office didn't explain why there was a holdup in obtaining this warrant.

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. - The FBI is asking for help in finding an endangered missing teenage girl. Isabel Shea Hicks, 14, was last seen Monday morning at her home in Bumpass, Virginia, which is in Louisa County, east of Charlottesville. Isabel is described as being 4 feet, 11 inches tall and weighing about 120 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes. Lynch is 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs about 190 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. The FBI considers Lynch armed and potentially dangerous and said people are told to not approach him if they see him.

LOUISA COUNTY, Va. - A man was sentenced to 10 years for sexually assaulting a woman at a Virginia campground. Jason Karsten, 38, was found guilty of sexually assaulting a woman at a Lousia county campground, according to the Louisa County Commonwealth's Attorney, Rusty McGuire. Authorities say a 38-year-old woman was at the campground with her children in June 2018. One evening, the victim, accompanied by Karsten, walked to a lake where shortly after getting in the water, he sexually assaulted her, according to authorities. Louisa County Circuit Court sentenced Karsten to 10 years in prison.
