ROANOKE, Va. – A woman whose son was killed by a Roanoke city police officer in 2019 wants the video evidence of her son’s last moments to be released to the public. Lori Hall’s son, Chase Austin, was killed in October 2019 after an officer-involved shooting in Roanoke near the Krispy Kreme on Hershberger Road NW. Austin was killed after he became confrontational and pointed a semi-automatic pistol at a Roanoke city police officer during their conversation, according to Virginia State Police. Back in February, Roanoke City Commonwealth’s Attorney Donald Caldwell announced his findings regarding the shooting. Whatever his motivation, Mr. Austin introduced the element of deadly force into what was otherwise a relatively benign situation.

The chain says you can bring in a not-so-tasty pumpkin spice flavored treat and trade it in for a doughnut -- for free! This year, Krispy Kreme has three varieties to choose from. The pumpkin spice doughnut is filled with a specially made cheesecake cream. There is also a pumpkin spice glazed doughnut and pumpkin spice cake doughnut.

(CNN) - Sugar might be falling out of favor, but it's the centerpiece of a makeover of Krispy Kreme that includes a new menu and its first store redesign in a decade. The doughnut company, founded 82 years ago, debuted a new location Tuesday in North Carolina that showcases Krispy Kreme's new, extra-sweet menu. The makeover follows rival Dunkin's debut of a modernized store and new menu items, like breakfast bowls, in a bid to attract more people. The new Krispy Kreme store, which is a half hour east of Charlotte, is framed with a "stylistic wink" to its logo on the exterior. But each store might not be as elaborate as its North Carolina store because menu items and store features will vary depending on location and store size.
