Virginia Tech, coming off a NCAA Super Regional appearance, is ranked as high as No. 14 in preseason polls.

It was five years ago to the day that John Szefc was announced as Virginia Tech’s next head baseball coach. And what a ride it’s been unfolding all the way to this weekend in the Super Regionals, where the Hokies are one of the final 16 teams in the country left playing baseball.

The Hokies defeated the Columbia Lions 7-2 in the Blacksburg Regional Final.

A fresh ACC championship banner graced English Field on Thursday as the Hokies took to the diamond for practice. Head Coach John Szefc said that success breeds confidence and the Hokies have plenty of that heading into Region play.

The hits have been loud. The pitching has left batters scratching their heads. The defense--tougher than a $2 steak.

Hokies had a program record of eight ACC all-conference honorees.
