Read full article: On this day: September 42014: Comedian, actress, author and TV host Joan Rivers dies at age 81 at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City a week after experiencing complications during what was scheduled as a minor throat procedure at an outpatient clinic. She stopped breathing during the procedure, but was later resuscitated and put on life support. Rivers died without ever having woken from a medically induced coma. She also appeared in movies such as "Spaceballs" and "The Muppets Take Manhattan," but in later years became more known for red carpet interviews with celebrities, often alongside her daughter Melissa Rivers. She also co-hosted the celebrity fashion show "Fashion Police" and starred in the reality TV series "Joan & Melissa: Joan Knows Best?"
