(CNN) - Jay Gruden is out as head coach of the Washington Redskins. Gruden was fired Monday, according to NFL.com, after the team's 0-5 start to the season. "Through the first five games of the 2019 season, the team has clearly not performed up to expectations, and we all share in that responsibility," according to a statement Monday from the Redskins. The Redskins were smacked by the New England Patriots -- the current Super Bowl champion -- 33-7 on Sunday. Gruden was in the middle of his sixth season coaching the team and had compiled a 35-49-1 record, according to Bleacher Report.

RICHMOND, Va. - RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Washington Redskins cornerback Adonis Alexander is expected to miss at least two weeks with a right quadriceps injury. Coach Jay Gruden confirmed the injury timeline on Sunday. Alexander hasn't practiced since Tuesday, when he left the field during the team's afternoon walkthrough. Two people with knowledge of the situation say Alexander left training camp to see a specialist in New York, where he received treatment for the injury. Alexander returned to Richmond on Thursday sporting a brace on his right leg.

The run production didnt hit the gear that the Washington Redskins expected a year ago. They had just drafted the explosive Guice from LSU in hopes of having a running core that could run and pass effectively with him and veteran Chris Thompson. Washington added veteran Peterson to the mix and watched him run for more than 1,000 yards. And with a clean bill of health, the Redskins know this could be a dangerous group of guys coming out of the backfield.

RICHMOND, Va. - Former Hokies star Kyshoen Jarrett played in all 16 games for the Redskins as an NFL rookie in 2015 before a devastating spinal cord injury, ended his playing career--but not his focus on football. Jarrett is back in burgundy as a defensive quality control coach for the Redskins. Kyshoen Jarrett, Redskins quality control coach said, "Theyve had open arms since this injury has taken place," Jarrett said. Hes going to be a great great football coach.Jarrett rejoins the Virginia tech fraternity that includes defensive backs, Greg Stroman, Adonis Alexander and defensive lineman, Tim Settle in the Redskins camp.
