Several high school football teams from across Southwest and Central Virginia are preparing to wrap up their season at the state championships Saturday.

Daleville, Va. โ When last we saw Lord Botetourtโs football team, they were battling Hopewell in the Class 3 state title game at Liberty University. Itโs not a traditional opponent for the Cavaliers, but coach Harless says he was happy to get the matchup. โGreat football program, great tradition, just neat having them come to Daleville and play,โ Harless says. AdWhen last we saw GW Danville they were falling in the Class 4 region semifinals to Salem by a 48-21 count. The Eagles and Cavaliers are set to kick off at 1 p.m. in Daleville on Saturday.

But if we donโt, to think of the accomplishments this group has had, itโs still going to be a great feeling.โ

Lord Botetourtโs Hunter Rice verbally commits to Army
ROANOKE, Va. โ Coach Jamie Harless continues to churn out Division One talent from Lord Botetourtโs football program. The most recent commit being star running back and linebacker Hunter Rice, who has verbally committed to play for Army. In 2019 Rice rushed for more than 1,700 yards and 16 touchdowns in juts 8 games of action. Rice becomes the 5th Lord Botetourt prospect in the class of 2021 to commit to a D-1 FBS or FCS program. Youโll recall the trio of Cavaliers that committed to Appalachian State-- Colston Powers, Kyle Arnholt and Troy Everett.

Daleville, Va. Its not unusual for Lord Botetourt football to send its players off to the next level. offensive tackle Colston Powers committed to Appalachian State. The football program is great, they have winning seasons every year, and it was just where I wanted to be., Powers said. So its definitely pretty special and im sure it will be pretty cool down at App State too, Everett added. And it is certainly a testament to Head coach Jamie Harless, and the legacy hes built at Lord Botetourt.

DALEVILLE, Va. โ Itโs been almost four years to the day since Lord Botetourt beat Hopewell to head to the state championship in 2015. On Saturday, they will face that same team to claim the Class 3 State title, but according to head coach Jamie Harless, this team couldnโt be more different. โI canโt think of things being any more polar opposite then it was last time we went. Itโs crazy but thereโs a polar opposite in the way everything has occurred.โThe Cavaliers are definitely different than in years past... starting with their 14-0 season. โWhen we leave Daleville tomorrow, we will get on two yellow busses, not going to have a send off, not going to be a police escort,โ Harless added.
Lord Botetourt football ready to capitalize on size
DALEVILLE, Va. - "Definitely play fast, play smart. Don't overthink it," Lord Botetourt High School senior Isaiah Stephens said. If you know what you're doing, it's simple. When asked what the secret to the size of the team was, Mason Wheeling simply replied, "(We're) just Botetourt." You do feel it, as soon as it gets into your body, it's rebuilding your muscles, it makes you feel like you're doing it for a reason.
