A vehicle crash is causing delays on I-64 in Alleghany County.

We won’t see weather like that for quite some time, as we’re stuck in quite the repetitive pattern moving forward. Snow is more likely in Pocahontas, Bath and Highland Counties, with an icy mix possible in Alleghany and Rockbridge Counties. If the temperature is 33° or above up top, then we see a mix of freezing rain and sleet develop. ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. – UPDATEThis crash has been cleared, as of 9 p.m., according to VDOT. ORIGINAL STORYDrivers can expect delays headed through Rockbridge County on I-81 North on Monday evening. A vehicle fire is causing traffic near mile marker 192.3. As of 6:21 p.m., all northbound lanes were closed, and traffic was backed up about six miles, according to VDOT. Traffic is being detoured onto westbound I-64, onto US-11, and back onto northbound I-81.

UPDATELanes are now back open after a tractor-trailer crash closed of I-81N in Rockbridge County. Authorities say traffic is now backed up for about 3 miles. ORIGINAL STORYA crash has closed I-81 North in Rockbridge County, according to the Virginia Dept. Authorities say the accident happened near mile marker 190, about one mile south of the I-64 exit. As of 10:40 a.m., traffic is backed up for about 12 miles.

CULPEPER, Va. Construction at the I-64 and US-29 interchange is set to start next week, according to the Virginia Dept. Officials say construction on the two projects, near Charlottesville, will improve safety and improve traffic flow in the area. One of the projects will reconfigure the I-64 interchange and eliminate the loop ramp from southbound US-29 to I-64 eastbound, according to VDOT. The current layout has two weaves for cars exiting and entering I-64, and has reportedly been a factor in several crashes. The second project is set to add an option lane, which is a through lane or right-merge lane, at the Fountain Avenue exit from US-29N.

Locations along and north of I-64 have the potential for a brief wintry mix near midday. It’ll change to a cold rain by the middle of the afternoon. The precipitation will be done by Saturday evening and temperatures will only reach into the upper 30s and lower 40s. Highs for Sunday will be near midnight, in the upper 30s and lower 40s. If you factor in the wind, you’ll want to dress for wind chills in the single digits and teens Monday morning.

Virginia State Police responded to a “63 vehicle chain-reaction accident” with 35 reported injuries Sunday morning. According to WAVY, they received a call at 7:49 a.m. for a crash on I-64 westbound near the Queens Creek Bridge. Peter Glagola with Riverside Regional Medical Center tweeted that they were treating 35 patients from the wreck. Police confirmed several people are injured and two of them have injuries that are considered life-threatening. The Virginia Department of Transportation tweeted that all westbound lanes are closed for the incident.

We may see a few more clouds build into the region as temperatures warm into the 80s. The best chance for a shower or storm will be along and north of I-64 this afternoon and evening. It'll be partly cloudy and seasonable Sunday night. For Labor Day, temperatures will be topping out in the mid to upper 80s under partly cloudy skies. An isolated shower or thunderstorm will be possible in the afternoon for locations along and west of the Parkway.

ROANOKE, Va. - If you didnt get the chance to enjoy the pleasant day Friday, youre in luck. Overall, the Labor Day Weekend is looking fantastic. Temperatures Saturday are expected to warm into the mid to upper 80s with slightly higher humidity levels. As a result, temperatures will be a touch cooler, in the mid-80s under a mixture of sun and clouds. Labor Day will be partly cloudy with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

ROANOKE, Va. - It'll be another hot day across southwest Virginia. Sunday afternoon temperatures will return to the 80s and mid-90s under mostly sunny skies. There is a small chance of a few isolated thundershowers along and north of I-64 Sunday evening. Then, towards peak heating hours of the day, a few showers and thunderstorms will bubble up. Thunderstorm chances will continue for the rest of the work week with the best chance midweek, due to the remnants of Barry.
