Elected Officials Day is Friday and officials and partners will come together on Friday to celebrate the ribbon-cutting event of the newly renovated Salem Distribution site, according to Feeding Southwest Virginia.

In honor of Hunger Action Month this September, local Kroger stores are once again leading the charge to support those in need with their annual Peanut Butter Drive.

On Sept. 15, a hot air balloon made its second trip to the skies at Omni Homestead Resort in support of its campaign for Hunger Action Month.

The hope is by elevating the campaign, Omni’s total donations will reach close to 22 million meals.

Volunteering to make sure no child goes hungry, members of the Roanoke City Police Department rolled up their sleeves to help feed hungry kids. Officers volunteered at the community solutions center with Feeding America Southwest Virginia, working in the kitchen to prepare meals. September is Hunger Action Month. Hunger Action Month begins Sunday. It's a nationwide push for hunger awareness and taking action to fight hunger in our communities. Local leaders said hunger is a big problem in our area, with more than 140,000 people facing hunger. That really puts a weight on families in our area," FASWVA marketing and communications coordinator Amanda Allen said. FASWVA is encouraging you to help fight hunger during September either by organizing your own food drive or participating in one of the nonprofit's events.
