A composure that only comes with experience showed up in crunch time as Radford men’s basketball team held on to defeat Charleston Southern, 75-70, on Carilion Clinic Court at the Dedmon Center on Saturday afternoon. Leading by as many as 15 points in the second half, the Highlanders (10-9, 4-2 Big South) braced themselves for an unrelenting comeback effort from the Buccaneers (7-10, 3-3 Big South). A 9-0 run by CSU made it a six-point game with 14 minutes to play and the guests kept it close from there on out.

Ali kept the team within striking distance in the first half with 16 points and Hart caught fire in the second half with 13. The Highlanders finished the game with a 42.9 3-point percentage, with Ali and Hart knocking down seven of the nine. Even though Ali went 4-for-4 from the 3-point line in the first half, Campbell shot 55.6 percent from the floor and from beyond the arc. The Camels used strong shooting in the second half to push the lead to a game-high 24 points.

Radford held the Pirates to a 35.7 percent in the first half and just 33.3 percent for the game. AdRadford maintained a double-digit lead from the 9:40 point in the second half to the end of the game. The lead was built thanks to tenacious defense that held Hampton without a field goal for nearly eight minutes from 17:11 to 9:27. Radford held the Pirates to just a 16.7 3-point percentage in the game – the lowest an opponent has shot all season long against the Highlanders.

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford women are hosting Charleston Southern in a 2-game series this weekend and got things started on a good note Saturday. The Highlanders trailed by as many as 10 in the second quarter, following a poor shooting performance in the opening quarter of play. Charleston Southern had 4 players score in double-figures, including Alyssia Faye who had a double-double (20 points, 11 rebounds). Coming out of a timeout, Radford trailed 73-71. On the inbounds play, Kyanna Morgan knocked down a three-pointer from the wing, 74-73 score to send Radford to victory at the buzzer.

RADFORD, Va. – The Radford men’s basketball team fell to Winthrop, 55-47, on Friday night inside the Dedmon Center. Radford held Winthrop to just 24.0 percent (6-for-25) shooting in the first 20 minutes, including a 0-for-7 stat line from long range. On the other end Radford shot 10.5 percent better (34.5 percent) and carried a four-point lead into halftime, 22-18. On the very next possession, a missed 3-pointer by Radford and a defensive rebound by Winthrop forced the Highlanders to foul with 25 seconds. RADFORD, Va. – Ariel Williams scored a career-high 25 points Friday night but visiting UNC Asheville defeated Radford in a high-scoring affair, 84-80, inside the Dedmon Center. UNC Asheville upped the defensive pressure out of the break, forcing five Highlander turnovers in the first three minutes of the frame. A late 10-1 run put UNC Asheville ahead by 12, 77-65, with two minutes left in the game. Nadiria Evans led all scorers with 31 points for UNC Asheville, and also added six rebounds and five assists. Radford (7-6, 6-1 Big South) shot 56.7 percent from the floor (17-of-30) and was efficient from beyond the arc making 4-of-8 in the first half. The defense stepped up in a big way and held the Bucs to just 24 points and 30.8 percent shooting in the second half. The second half was a lot of the same as the first for Radford as the team pushed its lead to 22 points late in the half. The Highlanders shot 50.0 percent in the second half and ended with a 53.7 percent shooting performance, including 42.9 percent from beyond the arc. RADFORD, Va. – Ashley Tudor scored 18 points off the bench, Bryonna McClean added 14 and Radford rallied from a nine-point deficit to defeat Presbyterian, 61-55, Thursday afternoon inside the Dedmon Center. The win was the first of the season for the Highlanders, who have now won nine of the last 10 meetings against Presbyterian. Tina Lindenfeld scored 10 points for Radford. Presbyterian kept its lead throughout the second quarter but Radford remained in striking distance as well, never trailing by more than six in the frame. Five different Highlanders scored in the quarter, including a Danielle Montelbano 3-pointer that cut the Blue Hose lead to just two.

CLINTON, S.C. – Quinton Morton-Robertson posted 18 points as Radford got past Presbyterian 71-65. Lewis Djonkam added 16 points, Dravon Mangum chipped in 11, and Chyree Walker had 10 for Radford. Fah’Mir Ali, the Highlanders’ leading scorer heading into the contest at 10 points per game, shot only 14% in the game (1 of 7). Owen McCormack added 14 points and seven rebounds, and Rayshon Harrison had 12 points and six rebounds. The Radford women came up short to Presbyterian 62-51, falling to 0-5 on the season.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Radford men’s basketball team fell short against Vanderbilt on Saturday night and dropped a 59-50 contest in Memorial Gym. Radford shot 46.2 percent from the floor in the first half and held Vanderbilt to just 34.4 percent. Then Radford cut the lead to three points, 47-44, at the 6:39 mark thanks to Shaquan Jules and Dante Moses. Radford led in bench points, 29-11. Radford turned the ball over 19 times and Vanderbilt scored 17 points off the turnovers.

RADFORD, Va. – Five players scored in double-figures on Wednesday afternoon as the Radford men’s basketball team topped Mars Hill, 98-50, for its first win of the 2020-21 season. Radford shot 55.6 from the floor and held Mars Hill to 29.6 percent from the floor and a season-low 23 points. The Highlanders went 7-for-10 from the floor, while Mars Hill was 0-for-8 with two turnovers during the run. Ironically, Radford shot 55.6 percent again in the second half and scored the same number of points as it did in the first. GREENVILLE, N.C. – A first half run by East Carolina erased a nine-point Highlander lead and the Radford men’s basketball team was unable to come back falling 63-50 on Saturday afternoon in Williams Arena. After the dunk, the Pirates scored nine in-a-row and pushed their lead to 29-21 with a 19-2 run over 8:20. The Highlanders scored six of the final eight points of the first half and cut the deficit to four, 31-27. The five-nation Super Rugby tournament was suspended after seven rounds in March because of international travel restrictions and quarantine requirements. New Zealand devised the Super Rugby Aotearoa tournament as a way to resume professional rugby in a domestic setting. New Zealands five Super Rugby teams will play each other home and away over 10 weeks.

RADFORD, Va. – Backed by Devin Hutchinson’s 17 points and Devine Eke’s double-double, the Radford men’s basketball team topped Presbyterian, 81-71, on Thursday night for its sixth win in a row. 10 of the Highlanders rebounds came on the offensive end, while the Blue Hose only had three. Eke led Radford with 10 rebounds and picked up 10 points for his second double-double this season and fifth of his career. Radford scored 16 points off the turnovers and had 12 second chance points thanks to double-digit offensive rebounds. It’s the third time this season Radford tallied 20 or more assists.

Second year coach Rick Street said their example on the field has a domino effect of the entire team. "You really don't have to tell them as much. We're going to play softball. What are we going to do when we play softball? Coach Street and his team look to continue their success as the season goes on and as they continue to play tougher match-ups in their conference.
