After the success of the Ronnie Roberts Classic, the Lynchburg Hillcats decided to host another special baseball game at Bank of James Stadium, this time to honor the seniors from the Dogwood District. More than 20 players came together two make up two teams. The Blue team consisted of players from Appomattox, Dan River, and William Campbell High Schools. The Grey team consisted of players from Altavista and Gretna High Schools. Sunday nights game had a great display of defensive play and big bats, as the Blue team scored in the final 4 innings to secure a 14-2 victory.

In game two of action, the Green team prevailed with a 6-4 victory over the Navy team. The Gray team was made up of players from Staunton River, William Byrd, Eastern Montgomery, Radford and Cave Spring. The green team was made up of players from Salem, Glenvar, Auburn, Nothside and Craig County. The Navy team was made up of players from Blacksburg, Christiansburg, William Fleming, Hidden Valley and North Cross.

More than 40 high school baseball seniors had a chance to take one last step in the batters box Saturday night. The Lynchburg Hillcats hosted the Ronnie Roberts Senior Classic giving seniors a chance to play one final game together, while also honoring a legend. Ronnie Roberts served in multiple roles for the Hillcats during a 28 year span, most notably as general manager before retiring in 2018. His family was on hand Saturday and received a jersey signed by all the players and coaches in the game. The east battled hard but the western all-stars do prevail, 7-4, in the inaugural Ronnie Roberts Senior Classic.

While the Salem Red Sox will not be taking the field in 2020, some high school seniors will play on the diamond one final time. Four teams comprised of seniors from at least 20 high schools will be competing. Theyll get the full-player experience with announcements and headshots to be shown on the video board when theyre at bat. Several of them are going on to play college ball but, for the most part, theyre not. One player even made a comment, Im going to be able to pitch at a minor league park.
