Emory and Henry is also making the transition from Division III to Division II, something Rupe is looking forward to. “I’m really looking forward to them move up to D2 and have more competition, I’m excited for that,” Rupe said. “They have a really good football team, I love the coaching staff, they put a lot of effort into recruiting me, I appreciated that.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – Three more men have been arrested after authorities say two brothers were shot in Franklin County and one was killed in July. On July 14, authorities received a 911 call for shots fired around 4:20 a.m. and officers responded to a home in the 100 block of Salthouse Branch Road in the Henry community of Franklin County. 21-year-old Sean Gabriel Schwallenberg of Hot Springs was arrested on Sept. 29 in Bath County and has been charged with one count of robbery in residence. Qu'Shawn Manns, Te'SEan Brooks and Treavon Taylor are in custody after police say they shot two brothers and killed one (Franklin County Sheriff's Office)This comes after Te’Sean Brooks, 19, of Henry was charged with three counts of shooting into an occupied dwelling. Brooks and Taylor are being held without bond at the Franklin County Jail.

RONAOKE, Va. – The National Weather Service has expired a tornado warning for parts of Henry, Franklin and Patrick counties. The warning was originally set to expire at 3:45 p.m. This warning effected north-central Henry County, Southwestern Franklin County and Northeastern Patrick County. At 3:17 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Endicott, 7 miles southwest of Ferrum, moving east at 10 mph.

ROANOKE, Va. – All that could be heard Thursday afternoon at the intersection of Fifth Street and Campbell Avenue in downtown Roanoke was the sound of cars going by. “We just plan on bringing some signs...and maybe sing a couple of songs," said Gloria Henry, who’s organizing a protest at the intersection in honor of Linda Pierson. Gallimore pleaded guilty Monday to felony hit and run and had a misdemeanor charge of driving without a license dropped. “I think things don’t get done unless people gather together and make their voices heard," said Roanoke RIDE Solutions Director Jeremy Holmes. Friday’s protest is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – A local dog rescue is getting national attention. As 10 News previously reported, Henry the beagle was rescued after getting trapped in a partially-buried car in Franklin County last week. He chased something into a car on his owner's property when he was let out to go to the bathroom, but couldn't get back out of the car. According to the Franklin County Animal Shelter, the rescue will be featured in an episode of the TV show “Live Rescue” on the A&E. The rescue is scheduled to air sometime between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Monday.

ROANOKE, Va. – Although the watch was initially scheduled to expire at 5 p.m., the National Weather Service canceled it shortly after 1:20 p.m. The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for multiple counties in Southside Virginia until 5 p.m.At 11 a.m., the watch was issued for Halifax, Henry and Pittsylvania counties, as well as the cities of Danville and Martinsville. Remember, a watch means that storms containing damaging wind will be possible. If a warning is issued, that is when you take action.

A man charged with murder after the discovery of an SD card containing brutal images and video of a woman's death has admitted to killing another woman in Alaska, according to authorities. Now, he's charged in the death of Veronica Abouchuk, whose body was found in April. Smith has pleaded not guilty in the death of Henry. He was arrested and charged with her murder after a woman out for a walk found a memory card containing 39 still photos and 12 videos that was labeled "homicide at midtown Marriott." Smith was connected to the murder thanks to phone records, police said, which placed him at the area where Henry's remains were found.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. - Some local middle and high school students may now be thinking about new potential career paths. Students in Martinsville and Henry and Patrick County got to use virtual reality to learn about working on ships. The students worked with representatives from Old Dominion University and the Newport News Shipbuilding company. "Today, the students are coming through and they're visiting numerous stations, where we teach them about the different technologies that we are using at Newport News Shipbuilding," Newport News Engineering Design Manager Heather Westmoreland said. Middle and high school students and their family members can compete in an engineering challenge.
