FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. - Authorities say a body that was found Thursday in Franklin County has been identified as Travis Pannell, 30, of Halifax. Pannell was shot to death, and his death is being investigated as a homicide, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office. Pannell's body was found on the side of Jubal Early Highway or Route 116. At this time, there doesn't appear to be any threat of danger to those who live in the area. DANVILLE, Va. - Danville leaders have voted to accept state grant funds for regional bus service to Halifax and Pittsylvania counties. In Halifax County, a bus will stop at Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital, the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, and at major employers along U.S. 58. While no specific times were given, leaders say service schedules will align with shift time needs of major employers. A Tobacco Commission grant was awarded to the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center to finance the local cost for three buses and for the anticipated operating cost for three years. DANVILLE, Va. - Goodwill Industries of South Central Virginia is filing for bankruptcy, hoping to merge with other area Goodwills. The organization covers stores at its base of operations in Danville and also in Pittsylvania and Halifax counties. A statement posted to its website said its provided services for 46 years, but after going through a difficult few years its now hoping to merge with other area Goodwills.
