Parts of the Roanoke Valley and Highlands saw more than a foot of snow from this storm. The winners were in western Greenbrier and western Pocahontas Counties, where more than a foot and a half of snow fell. A major coastal storm brought 1-2 ft. of snow to the region. That introduced a lot of moisture into that cold air and created the perfect recipe for accumulating snowfall.

At noon on March 19, The Greenbrier closed its doors amid coronavirus concerns. When guests return to the property, they’ll notice a variety of safety measures, including:Full-time teams dedicated to sanitizing high-touch public spaces such as door handles, railings, elevator buttons, tables and desks. The housekeeping team is paying special attention to sanitizing high-touch areas inside the rooms, such as remote controls, clocks, light switches and informational guides. Seating areas have been adjusted inside restaurants to allow for additional distancing and reservation times have been spread out to avoid backups.

Emerald Campbell lives in White Sulphur Springs and says restaurants, shops and hotels will all suffer.

Snow totals from January 22 and 23, 2016The National Weather Service in Blacksburg tweeted Thursday morning that parts of northern Virginia saw a whopping 30-40″ of snow! A major coastal storm brought 1-2 ft. of snow to the region.

Daleville's Butch Tyree, who many will recognize in the sportsworld as the former Northside HS athletic director, is this year's honoree. Tyree is recently retired after 30 years as a math teacher, athletic director and coach at Northside high. He's volunteered at the tournament for seven years.
