Stage Stores, Gordmans’ parent company, announced it filed voluntary petitions under Chapter 11 of the Bankruptcy Code in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, Houston Division on May 10. Stage Stores says stores will begin to reopen in the coming weeks in an attempt to sell the rest of inventory. Stores will be conducting closing sales in the coming weeks. Locations in our area include stores in Covington, Lexington, Bedford, Amherst, Appomattox, Altavista, Rocky Mount, Pulaski and South Boston.

Gordmans offers clothes and home decor from popular brands at prices way lower than department stores. On Jan. 9, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., nine soon-to-be Gordmans stores will be hiring for a variety of positions, including store manager, assistant store manager, sales associate, stockroom associate and more. Interested candidates are invited to first apply online here and then visit one of the stores holding a job fair. When 10 News first reported on local Peebles becoming Gordmans in August, the Pulaski store was on that list.

Stage, the company that owns both Peebles and Gordmans, confirmed to 10 News that both the Pulaski and Lexington Peebles stores are set to be converted to Gordmans. All current Peebles associates will be offered jobs at Gordmans and more associates will be hired during a job fair early next year. Stage says a number of Virginia Peebles stores will be converting to Gordmans in 2020 and it will release more specifics in the future. Stage bought 48 Gordmans as well as the Gordmans name after Gordmans filed for bankruptcy in 2017.
