Judicial and law enforcement authorities in Belgium have dismantled an organized criminal network responsible for drugs trafficking involving corrupt police officers as they seized more than 2 million euros and some 3.5 tons of cocaine.
(Johanna Geron, Pool Photo via AP, File)BRUSSELS โ Authorities in Belgium and another three countries have dismantled a criminal drug trafficking network that allegedly relied on corrupt police officers to ship hundreds of millions of dollars worth of cocaine into Western Europe, officials said Thursday.
Authorities also seized weapons, about 40 vehicles, 1.3 million euros in cash, 700,000 euros ($822,000) on various bank accounts as well as stocks worth 62,000 euros ($72,850).
โThe quantity we seized can seem gigantic, but it's infinitely small compared to what really goes through," Van Leeuw said.
โIt's not only cocaine that is imported," Van Leeuw said.
