Kennels full of hopeful eyes and wagging tails. The Franklin County Animal Shelter is at capacity, caring for 28 dogs. But with a recent act of generosity, those dogs could soon find themselves in a new home.

A plea to the public — the Franklin County Animal Shelter is calling on the community to help pets in need.

The Franklin County Animal Shelter is hosting a pet adoption event in hopes of finding new homes for some of the animals.

The brown-eyed boy is one step closer to feeling better and one day finding a home.

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. Franklin Countys adoptable dogs and cats officially moved in to more comfortable surroundings this weekend. The new Franklin County Animal Shelter opened Saturday after more than a year of construction. The new shelter is three times as large as its replacement. Shelter manager Cindy Brooks said the old shelter lacked handicap access, did not have air conditioning, and was in an inconvenient location for many in the county. I feel were going to have a lot more people come visit us in this location compared to the other one, Brooks said.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. A brand new animal shelter will give lost or surrendered pets a safe, clean and spacious place to stay until they can find forever homes. On Tuesday morning, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to officially open the new Franklin County Animal Shelter. The new shelter has a modern ventilation system and incorporates natural light. The shelter has sufficient space for the existing dog and cat populations and includes room for the future growth. The new facility also includes an isolation area for sick pets, an animal meet-and-greet adoption room, the animal control office, a sally port to unload animals safely, as well as an outdoor exercise area.
