Normally, 15,000 people would listen to music, indulge in food, purchase crafts and enjoy carnival rides at Festival in the Park in Danville. But the cityโs parks and recreation department knew it will be difficult to enforce social distancing protocols and gathering limits. Usually, the event would lead to a spike in local shopping but attaining vendors this year is not an easy task. โA lot of our vendors and supporters arenโt even in a position to support us this year,โ President of Festival in the Park Jason Bookheimer said.

About 30,000 people are expected to come during the course of the weekend. Anna Pickeral, the board president for Festival in the Park, said each year the festival evolves. "Over 42 years we have gone and added entertainment and this year we've gone and added, as they said, the 200-foot slip-and-slide," explained Pickeral. All concerts are free and begin at 6:30 p.m.On Monday, the Virginia Proud Weather Tour will be in Giles County at Mountain Lake Lodge.
