The shutout loss was Ferrum’s first in 20 years, since falling 10-0 to Emory & Henry September 9, 2000 in Ferrum.

The Maroons rushed out to a 9 point lead midway through the first half, but Ferrum rallied to take a 1-point edge at halftime. A back and forth second half ended with a Roanoke bucket by Kasey Draper with 2.4 seconds left for a Maroons win 49-48. Draper led the way with a double-double of 17 points and 11 boards. Roanoke College moves to 2-1, 2-0 in ODAC play.

The Maroons, who were picked 4th as preseason favorites, welcomed the return of former Northside Viking Kasey Draper who made his season debut--tallying 16 points and 10 rebounds. At the Hive in Lynchburg, the women opened up ODAC play with Bridgewater. On the road, the Ferrum women also came up short to Randolph-Macon. The Yellow Jackets saw 4 players notch double-digit scoring performances including Cheridan Hatfield who lead with 16 points and Aimee Debell who added 15 points and 19 rebounds.

At 3:17 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Endicott, 7 miles southwest of Ferrum, moving east at 10 mph.

In terms of the team and the program, I dont feel disconnected from the team. What I do feel is the same uncertainty as everybody else and just hoping we get some final answers on what things need to look like moving forward.

The outing serves as a fundraiser and great event for fellowship, giving former players the chance to have a homecoming of sorts while paying homage Norton who left a lasting legacy at Ferrum College. Former NFL star Chris Warren made a return trip to the valley, while Virginia Tech Hall of Famer and former NBA star Dell Curry made a celebrity guest appearance. Hes also the the brother-in-law of first year head coach Cleive Adams, who led the event for the first time since taking over the helm at Ferrum. Its a great program and you can see it here with the support, Curry said.

W&L opened the scoring with 9:58 left in the second quarter when sophomore running back Alex Wertz (Sterling, Va. / Dominion) scored on a 7-yard touchdown run. Laughlin amassed 52 rushing yards on eight carries and he also completed 6-of-8 passes for 73 yards and one score. First-year running back Joe Burris III led the way with 58 yards and a touchdown on just eight carries. Washington and Lee will now enjoy a bye week, before returning to action on October 19 at Emory & Henry.

The Panthers went 6-4 a year ago and in his second year at the helm, coach Rob Grande is ready to build off a solid first season. That set a tone I think in the second year," Grande said. There are big moves ahead for Ferrum as it joins the ODAC next season, but the Panthers aren't looking too far ahead. Just aiming to do well in their final season playing in the USA South.
