One death in Florida was linked to the storm, along with some scattered flooding and forecasters said the tropical storm was on a path offshore of South Carolina that would eventually take it further out to sea. That came amid a combination of moisture from the Gulf of Mexico being carried up by a cold front that had pushed Eta across Florida earlier. Earlier Thursday, Eta was in the Gulf of Mexico when it slogged ashore near Cedar Key, Florida. Coming into hurricane season, we knew we’d have plenty of storms to talk about. No one could have predicted how many storms we’d end up getting, as we’re right on the doorstep for the record in the Atlantic basin. You might remember that we didn’t get to “Eta” during 2005, but the National Hurricane Center (NHC) added an unnamed storm to the record books after the season. We’ve said numerous times this hurricane season that we hope the current storm will be the last. As we know, 2020 is anything but typical.

The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami declared hurricane and storm surge warnings for the Keys from Ocean Reef to the Dry Tortugas, including Florida Bay. Several shelters also opened in Miami and the Florida Keys for residents in mobile homes and low lying areas. High temperatures in the Roanoke Valley will be at or above 70° through Sunday and possibly into next week. The last time we had six straight days of 70° warmth in November was back in 2005. Last six day streak of 70°+ warmth in November2005 was an extremely active tropical season, which can also be said about the 2020 season. The storm will be sandwiched between high pressure off the East Coast and low pressure to the west, causing it to meander somewhere near Florida through next week.
