New River Valley shoppers will soon be able to get their organic food fix.

Starting in January, New River Valley residents won't have to make the trek up I-81 to get to the nearest Earth Fare.

ROANOKE, Va. – Crews responded to a fire in Roanoke on Tuesday night. Units were dispatched just before 6:30 p.m. to a fire on Winston Avenue SW, just across the train tracks from the plaza with Earth Fare and Mellow Mushroom. Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from a commercial building and were able to get the fire under control within 30 minutes, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS. No injuries have been reported, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS.

ROANOKE, Va. Crews responded to a structure fire in SW Roanoke on Tuesday night. The fire was in an abandoned commercial building in the 600 block of 22nd Street, tucked behind Ivy Market Shopping Center. Ivy Market is where Earth Fare, Mellow Mushroom, CoreLife Eatery and other businesses are located. Authorities told 10 News that no one was hurt in the fire. The call came in around 10:45 p.m. and the fire was out as of 11:20 p.m.

ROANOKE, Va – A popular organic grocery store has reopened its doors in Roanoke under new ownership. After the company went bankrupt, the new owners bought the Roanoke location as well as two other stores in North Carolina. Earth Fare focuses on selling organic and locally-sourced food. “Roanoke is a great community for us; there are plenty of our shoppers here and this is a great location, and Roanoke has just been great to us. It’s the number three store in the company,” said David Isinghood, Chief Operating Officer of Earth Fare.

ROANOKE, Va. – Get excited Earth Fare fans, the grocery store is opening its doors soon! In March, 10 News reported that Earth Fare would be reopening in Roanoke after the store was among those purchased by a new owner after the original company announced it was closing all 50 stores. Earth Fare opened in Roanoke in 2017 on Franklin Road. When the store closed earlier this year, Roanoke City Economic Development Director Rob Ledger said the store’s closure wasn’t a Roanoke issue, but rather a corporate one. “I think the store performance was phenomenal, I would bet it was in the top five or ten percent of all the stores for Earth Fare, so it had nothing to do with store performance, it was a strong performer here and it’s a great location and a great neighborhood and great being on Franklin Road,” said Ledger.

ROANOKE, Va. – Natural food grocery chain Earth Fare filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Tuesday. This filing comes a day after the company announced it would be closing all 50 stores. The company listed liabilities of $100 million to $500 million and assets of $100 million to $500 million. The company also has an estimated 10,001-25,000 creditors. Company officers may “enter into negotiation with any interested parties regarding a purchase of any or all of the assets of the company,” according to the filing.

ROANOKE, Va. – Natural, organic grocery market chain Earth Fare is set to shut down all operations. “Earth Fare has been proud to serve the natural and organic grocery market, and the decision to begin the process of closing our stores was not entered into lightly. We’d like to thank our Team Members for their commitment and dedication to serving our customers, and our vendors and suppliers for their partnership,” said Earth Fare. As a result, Earth Fare is not in a financial position to continue to operate on a go-forward basis. The store employs about 50 people, all of whom will lose their jobs, according to an Earth Fare spokesperson.
