Units were dispatched just before 6:30 p.m. to a fire on Winston Avenue SW, just across the train tracks from the plaza with Earth Fare and Mellow Mushroom. Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from a commercial building and were able to get the fire under control within 30 minutes, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS. No injuries have been reported, according to Roanoke Fire-EMS.

The fire was in an abandoned commercial building in the 600 block of 22nd Street, tucked behind Ivy Market Shopping Center. Ivy Market is where Earth Fare, Mellow Mushroom, CoreLife Eatery and other businesses are located. Authorities told 10 News that no one was hurt in the fire. The call came in around 10:45 p.m. and the fire was out as of 11:20 p.m.

In March, 10 News reported that Earth Fare would be reopening in Roanoke after the store was among those purchased by a new owner after the original company announced it was closing all 50 stores. Earth Fare opened in Roanoke in 2017 on Franklin Road. When the store closed earlier this year, Roanoke City Economic Development Director Rob Ledger said the storeโs closure wasnโt a Roanoke issue, but rather a corporate one. โI think the store performance was phenomenal, I would bet it was in the top five or ten percent of all the stores for Earth Fare, so it had nothing to do with store performance, it was a strong performer here and itโs a great location and a great neighborhood and great being on Franklin Road,โ said Ledger.

The company also has an estimated 10,001-25,000 creditors. Company officers may โenter into negotiation with any interested parties regarding a purchase of any or all of the assets of the company,โ according to the filing.
