NEW YORK – Dunkin’ doughnuts and coffee is being combined with Buffalo Wild Wings and Arby's sandwiches. Inspire Brands Inc. said Friday that it is acquiring Dunkin' Brands Group Inc. for $11.3 billion, including the Dunkin’ Brands’ debt that Inspire will be taking on. The private-equity firm will pay $106.50 in cash for all of Dunkin' Brands' shares, which closed Friday at $99.71. Dunkin' Brands' stock surged to an all-time high earlier this week after the company confirmed the two were in merger talks. In addition to Buffalo Wild Wings and Arby's, it owns the Sonic burger chain, Jimmy John's restaurants and Rusty Taco.

The Dunkin’ doughnuts and coffee chain has confirmed it's held talks to be taken private by a private equity firm, sending its shares rocketing to an all-time high Monday. Dunkin’ Brands Group said it’s in preliminary discussions with Inspire Brands, which also owns Arby’s and Jimmy John’s Sandwiches. Dunkin’ shares jumped $14.31, or 16.1% to close Monday at $103.10. Dunkin’ Brands revenue fell 20% in the second quarter, and the company said franchisees closed 200 restaurants permanently. Dunkin’ Brands reported full-year sales of $1.4 billion in 2019, up 4% from the previous year.

CNN A Dunkin' employee was arrested Friday after an Illinois State Trooper discovered mucus in his drink. Vincent J. Sessler, 25, was charged with disorderly conduct, reckless conduct and battery to a peace officer, according to Illinois State Police. The men and women of the Illinois State Police put their heart and soul into protecting the lives and rights of all people in this state every day," ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly said in a statement. Immediately after the incident, the issue was investigated and Sessler was terminated from his job, a Dunkin' spokesperson told CNN. "Dunkin' has a deep appreciation for police officers who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe, and the franchise owner has reached out directly to the officer to apologize for the experience."

Dunkin has announced that it will be closing around 800 of its stores across the country. According to the companys second-quarter earnings report, low-earning stores will be affected. The 800 stores reportedly account for 8% of the companys US locations. Dunkin is looking at closing an additional 350 international locations. The report did not say where the stores expected to close are located.

To improve growth, McDonald's has been adding digital menu boards to stores, expanding delivery options and investing in AI tech for its drive-thrus, among other things. For instance, Wendy's is adding breakfast to its menu, investing $20 million and adding about 20,000 employees for the initiative. Others, like Burger King, are exploring plant-based menu options. McDonald's has plant-based options internationally and is testing a Beyond Burger in Canada, but has yet to test a meat substitute in the United States.

Pizza Hut will sell the pie in a new, round pizza box, which it is also testing at the Phoenix location. It took two years to develop the box, said Nicolas Burquier, chief customer and operations officer for Pizza Hut. Kellogg and Pizza Hut recently partnered on another limited-time menu item, the Stuffed Cheez-It Pizza, which is designed to look like an oversized Cheez-It cracker. That collaboration led to a discussion about incorporating Incogmeato into the Pizza Hut menu, explained Marianne Radley, chief brand officer for Pizza Hut. The Garden pizza and round box will be sold together for $10.

Dunkin' via CNN(CNN) - Dunkin' is launching its Beyond Meat breakfast sandwich nationally in November, two months ahead of schedule, after a highly successful test of the product this summer. Dunkin' first introduced a breakfast sandwich featuring Beyond Meat's meatless sausage in New York City this July. Just a month later, Burger King announced that it would make the product available nationally because the test had gone "exceedingly well." For chains like Burger King, Dunkin' and others, the meat substitute protein trend could be a boon. For Dunkin', the Beyond breakfast sandwich is also a way to capture sales in an expanding segment.

Breakfast is an important meal for fast food chains. Currently, Wendy's offers breakfast, including a bacon sandwich and a honey butter chicken biscuit, at about 300 locations. Menu innovations have helped boost Wendy's sales. Wendy's is not the only fast food chain focusing on breakfast. Dunkin' has tried out breakfast bowls and sandwiches, and is testing a breakfast sandwich featuring a plant-based sausage in its New York City stores.
