Holliday joined the Thundering Herd in 2009 and led the team to an 85-54 record. Holliday is a former West Virginia linebacker, longtime WVU assistant, and also an assistant at NC State and Florida.

Subbing for the national leader in rushing yards per game, Jaret Patterson, Marks carried 35 time for 138 yards for the Bulls (6-1) against one of the nation's top run defenses. Grant Wells then took Marshall (7-3), which had rallied from a 10-0 deficit, to the Buffalo 20 with no timeouts. Like Buffalo, Marshall wasn't at full strength. Buffalo: Patterson and Vantrease are only juniors so Buffalo could get them back for another season.

The plane crash redefined comebacks and helped shape the identity of the public university that serves 13,000 students in Huntington. Everyone on board perished: 36 football players, 39 coaches, school administrators, community leaders, boosters and the flight crew. Those not on the Marshall plane have spent the last five decades dealing with heartache, self-doubt and unanswerable questions about why they were spared.

Williams caught seven passes for 132 yards and Greg McCrae had 80 rushing yards on 14 carries. Isaiah Green went 9 of 23 for 173 yards with a TD and had a rushing touchdown for Marshall (8-5). “They fought the entire game.”Green had a 3-yard rushing touchdown and hit Willie Johnson on a 70-yard TD pass, and Justin Rohrwasser made a 50-yard field goal during the third quarter. Knox, a sophomore, topped 100 yards rushing for the seventh time.
