The national Republican Party has increasingly embraced former President Donald Trump's false claims of fraud in the 2020 election.

While 2020 was a big election for the United States, 2021 will be when Virginians vote on who will lead the Commonwealth.

Trump did not back up his claims with any details or evidence, and state and federal officials have not reported any instances of widespread voter fraud. Counting votes is often “long” and “frustrating,” Romney said. Most in the GOP take pains to avoid directly criticizing Trump, even when they find his conduct unhelpful or offensive to their values and goals. But one of Trump’s top congressional supporters said he supports efforts to question the vote counting process and is donating money to shore up legal challenges. Chris Christie, a Trump ally who is an analyst for ABC News, said there was no basis for Trump's argument.

The two men vying for Virginia’s 5th District Congressional seat met for the first time on the virtual stage on Wednesday. Cameron Webb, who is running as a Democrat, practices at the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Bob Good, the Republican candidate and former Campbell County Supervisor said one of his top priorities is investing more money and resources into law enforcement agencies. Folks want to know that they are safe and if you’re not safe, nothing else matters, and that’s the number one priority that folks want,” 5th District Republican Candidate Bob Good said. While the two candidates have different opinions on most political matters, both agreed in finding ways to unite the 5th District and bounce back after the COVID-19 pandemic.

In an interview with 10 News on Wednesday, Virginia’s 5th District congressman criticized fellow Virginia GOP members as moving too far to the political right. “Republicans have always been about a big tent party, centered on individual liberty, and I think we’ve lost our way,” Riggleman said. “What if there was a governor who cares about the people of Virginia rather than just a party platform of moving on up?” Riggleman said. “If they can have a message of hope and a message that is not completely extremist, I think that’s the person that is going to win.”

Dr. Cameron Webb has won the Democratic nomination for the U.S. House seat in Virginias 5th District, according to the Associated Press. Webb will face Republican Bob Good in November. According to Webbs campaign site, he was tapped by President Obama for the White House Fellowship. LYNCHBURG, Va. – 5th District Republican nominee Bob Good is still riding high on his win Saturday. He admits he missed it by a few days but, “state code gives a 10-day grace period. It’s always approved within that grace period to be on the ballot, so we don’t have any concerns,” Good said. Good says the 5th District is known to never sway blue and it’s why he’s confident he’ll win. “This is a bright red conservative district, if we run a good strong campaign, we certainly should prevail in November,” Good said.

WASHINGTON Democrats flooded Twitter and email inboxes this week with praise for the watershed Supreme Court decision shielding gay, lesbian and transgender people from job discrimination. The Supreme Court ruled in 2015 that the Constitution ensures a right for same-sex couples to marry. Kavanaugh voted against this weeks court ruling. The Supreme Court is always a hugely important issue to conservatives, Severino said Tuesday. If the courts ruling wasnt painful enough for Republicans, the opinion was written by Justice Neil Gorsuch, Trumps first Supreme Court appointee.

Challenger Bob Good knocked off incumbent 5th District Rep. Denver Riggleman in the district’s convention on Saturday. Good told his supporters shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday that he defeated Riggleman 58 percent to 42 percent. “We look forward to making the 5th District bright red again, as this is a strong conservative district,” Good told supporters in his victory speech. LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Fifth Congressional District will likely know its Republican nominee on November’s ballot by the end of the weekend. Delegates chose between incumbent Rep. Denver Riggleman and former Campbell County Supervisor Bob Good during a drive-through convention at Tree of Life Ministries on Saturday. The conventions are normally conducted in person, but the district switched to a drive-through model due to COVID-19. However, Fifth Congressional District Republican Chairman Marvin Adams believes the party will unite no matter which candidate wins. 10 News attempted to contact Rep. Riggleman, but has not received a response.

LYNCHBURG, Va. Convention time is winding down for members of Virginias 5th District Republican Committee. The group is using its time to answer last minute questions on Facebook from delegates who will be voting during a unique convention. Riggleman came under fire by members of his own party last year after officiating a same-sex wedding. By the time that folk come to the convention they need to have their mind made up, Adams said. The 5th District stretches from Northern Virginia to the North Carolina border and is larger in land mass than the state of New Jersey.

BEDFORD, Va. - Republican Congressmen Denver Riggleman and Ben Cline hosted a joint town hall in Bedford Wednesday night. A crowd of more than 100 people filled the room at Central Virginia Community College in Bedford Wednesday for the event. Cline of the 6th District and Riggleman of the 5th District split the county. "Voters in this area are not as concerned about impeachment as they are concerned about, infrastructure, drugs and crime and immigration," Cline said. As questions continue about President Donald Trump's actions with foreign governments, both Republicans said they continue to back the President.

A Republican congressman is taking fire from his own party for officiating a same-sex wedding. According to the Washington Post, Rep. Denver Riggleman has been scolded by a GOP county committee in Virginia's fifth congressional district. That's despite the fact that he voted along the party lines on LGBTQ-related bills. His communication director said in a statement, "the wedding involved two of Riggleman's friends, who also volunteered for his campaign." The statement said the couple asked Riggleman to officiate, which he was happy to do.
