DANVILLE, Va. – A water rescue executed by the Danville Fire Department saved a dog that was trapped in a river. Crews responded to 229 Northside Drive for a report of a dog trapped near a log in the river. When crews arrived, they found the dog near a log that was entangled in some debris in the river. The rescue team was able to remove the dog from the debris and the dog swam back to the shoreline to his owner. The dog was uninjured and didn’t need further assistance from crews.

DANVILLE, Va. – No one was seriously hurt after a fire at a Danville motel on Monday, though occupants found themselves without a place to stay after every room was damaged. The Danville Fire Department said crews responded to the Budget Inn on Piney Forest Road just before 9 a.m. They arrived to find heavy smoke and fire coming from a room at the one-story motel. While crews worked to get the fire under control, the department also helped evacuate the rest of the motel rooms. DANVILLE, Va. – Most wreaths bring joy; however, this one in Danville is reminding people about fire safety. The wreath with red lights hangs outside of the main Danville fire station on Lynn Street. First, they got a report just after 7:30 a.m. of a person in danger of falling into the river from the Main Street Bridge. The second call was for someone in the river after their kayak overturned just after 2 p.m.Crews arrived to find a man on some debris underneath the Norfolk Southern train trestle. Crews attempted a high angle rescue from the top of the train trestle. They were able to lower a rescuer to the victim, place a harness on the victim and pull him to safety, according to the Fire Department.

DANVILLE, Va. – The Red Cross is assisting a Danville family after a Wednesday afternoon house fire. Smoke could be seen coming from the house. The kitchen sustained moderate damage while the rest of the house sustained minor heat and smoke damage according to a news release from the fire department. An electrical outlet shorted out and caught a baseboard on fire. The fire spread to cabinets near the stove and “out into the kitchen” the news release said.
