Crisp, autumn air fades as sunshine goes to quick work throughout the rest of the day. Even as clouds develop near and east of the Blue Ridge Parkway, high temperatures will still rise into the 70s once again Thursday afternoon. Temperatures fall west of the Parkway and then level off in areas east of the Parkway throughout the day.

ROANOKE, Va. – If you step out the door early this morning, you’ll notice the chill of autumnal air that is locked in the region. In fact, the New River Valley, Highlands and Botetourt County are all under a frost advisory until 9 a.m. Consider an extra warm cup of coffee to get this first weekend of October started. We’ll see the best colors in the New River Valley and Highlands this weekend. Some patches of color are starting to show up in the Roanoke Valley and along the Blue Ridge.

A wedge of high pressure is setting up to the north of us today, which means more cloud cover and cooler temperatures for most.
