The Community School’s annual Strawberry Festival returns on Friday, May 5 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, May 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, Community School announced its accomplishment in a press release that stated the school had been named to the Association for Middle Level Education’s Schools of Distinction Program.

Dozens of parents and volunteers from the Community School spent Thursday whipping up a salty and sweet treat.

After having to cancel last year due to the pandemic, Community School’s Strawberry Festival is back!

ROANOKE, Va – One of Southwest Virginia’s most beloved festivals is returning to the Star City. The Community School will be hosting its annual Strawberry Festival a little differently this year. This year, the event will be in a drive-thru format at the Berglund Center so strawberry lovers can enjoy their shortcakes and other deserts safely during the pandemic. “Typically our larger festival would have kids games and music and a number of other things and so that will be slightly dialed back here, but we still look forward to the festive atmosphere and sort of the spirit that comes with it,” said Community School Director of Marketing Liz Johnson. This year’s event will take place on April 30 and May 1.

A great kickoff to the summer time and the festival season," said Nicole Cooper, the co-chair of the Chocolate Dipped Strawberries booth. For Michi Hines, the administrative director with the Community School and the director of the festival, it's her 24th festival. I hear stories all the time, people coming from West Virginia, Pennsylvania with their coolers," said Hines. On Monday, the Virginia Proud Weather Tour will be in Floyd County at the Floyd Country Store.
