This year, both the Roanoke Valley Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and the Lynchburg Humane Society saw crowds searching for pets that needed a home. The Roanoke Valley SPCA started Saturday with more than 50 pets available for adoption. The Lynchburg Humane Society had 42 adoptions Saturday. WSLS partnered with the Lynchburg Humane Society and the Roanoke Valley SPCA for the Clear the Shelters campaign.

This weekend is your chance to adopt and make sure animal shelters across Southwest Virginia have enough space to save other strays. Denise Hayes, shelter's CEO, is hoping every one of the 50 cats and dogs at the shelter will find loving homes during Saturday's annual Clear the Shelters event. WSLS is parterning with the Lynchburg Humane Society and the Roanoke Valley SPCA for the national Clear the Shelters campaign. Last year, 35 pets were adopted at the Roanoke Valley SPCA.

If your current address isn't listed on your ID, make sure to bring a piece of mail that has your current address. The same goes for every dog -- they must have the correct walking equipment like a collar, leash or even a harness. Shelter officials also encourage you to bring your resident dog to meet the dog you want to adopt to make sure it's the right fit.
