The U.S. and several states settled and signed a consent decree with the companies in late 2016 to resolve allegations of Clean Water Act violations from Justice-owned mines in Alabama, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The defendants named in the new filing are Southern Coal Corporation, Premium Coal Company Inc., and Justice Coal of Alabama. A lead attorney for the companies and the governor's office did not immediately respond to emails seeking comment.

NEW YORK – A decade after publishing his memoir “Decoded,” Jay-Z is forming a more lasting partnership with the book industry. Roc Nation, the entertainment company founded by the rapper, is starting an imprint with Random House called Roc Lit 101. In a joint announcement Tuesday, Random House and Roc Nation promised “books at the dynamic intersection of entertainment and genre-defying literature." Future releases will include a book by Meek Mill on “criminal justice and survival,” memoirs by rappers Yo Gotti and Fat Joe and fantasy fiction from rapper Lil Uzi Vert, along with everything from cookbooks to children's stories. Roc Lit 101 will be led by Chris Jackson, the publisher and editor-in-chief of the Random House imprint One World and a recent recipient of a lifetime achievement award from the Center for Fiction; and Jana Fleishman, executive vice president of Roc Nation.

NEW YORK – Author James McBride and editor Chris Jackson were among those honored Thursday night by the Center for Fiction. Jackson, whose authors range from Ta-Nehisi Coates to Bryan Stevenson, was given the Medal for Editorial Excellence Award. Jackson runs the One World imprint of Penguin Random House. The Center for Fiction awarded its First Novel Prize to Raven Leilani for “Luster,” the story of a young Black woman's affair with a married, middle-aged white man. Finalists included this year's Booker Prize winner, Douglas Stuart's “Shuggie Bain.”

But the new Monmouth poll confirms other recent polling suggesting a far tighter race for the Democratic nomination. Sanders and Biden are also viewed favorably by around three-quarters of Democratic voters, but their unfavorable ratings were higher (around one-in-five found each unfavorable). Trump's favorability was the worst among registered voters (compared to the top Democratic candidates), with 43% favorable and 56% unfavorable. The Monmouth University Poll was conducted by telephone from September 23 to 29, 2019 with 1,161 adults in the United States. The results in this release are based on 1,017 registered voters and have a +/- 3.1 percentage point sampling margin of error.

The environmental footprint of a private jet is also much greater than that of a commercial plane. "Private jets are similar to commercial jets except they fly with less people, so therefore the footprint (per person) is much higher," Gilliam explained. The band tweeted Friday it will be postponing its concert originally set for Sunday in New Orleans. Tropical Storm Barry is expected to make landfall Saturday in Louisiana as a Category 1 hurricane, and the intense rain it will bring is expected to wreak havoc on the city. The show will be moved just one day later, to Monday, and Sunday's tickets will be honored, the band said in a tweet. Lead vocalist Mick Jagger gave nod to the band's stormy lyrics on Twitter and confirmed they'll be performing Monday.
