Chad Austin would have turned 33 on Friday, but now his family is looking for answers about his death.

AMHERST COUNTY, Va – On the eve of what would have been his 32nd birthday, family members and investigators are looking to the public for more answers about the murder of Chad Austin. Austin went missing in Amherst County last year – his body not found until the spring. Austin went missing in 2019 with his car, dog and wallet found close by to where his remains were discovered near Panther Falls road in May. “We don’t want Chad forgotten and that’s why we need your help,” Austin said. The press conference was held in the Panther Falls recreational area where Austin was last seen alive and where his remains were recovered.

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The body of a missing 30-year-old Buena Vista man last seen in May 2019 has been found, according to Virginia State Police. "The Austin family has been relentless in their search for Chad,” said Buena Vista Police Chief Richard Hartman. Police said that in addition to finding Austin’s remains, forensic investigators collected property and evidence that is currently undergoing testing at the Virginia Department of Forensic Science. Because his remains were discovered in Amherst County and not within the city limits of Buena Vista, Virginia State Police will assume the lead on the investigation. BUENA VISTA, Va. – The wallet of a missing Buena Vista man has been found on a trail by a father and daughter in the Panther Falls area. Authorities believe the wallet belongs to Chad Austin due to several items inside. Austin went missing in the area around Memorial Day. According to Lt. Waylon Miller with the Buena Vista Police Department, the trail where the wallet was found has been searched several times since Austin’s appearance. ROANOKE, Va.- - A $1,000 reward is being offered for information that will lead police to the whereabouts of a Buena Vista man. Thirty-year-old Chad Austin was last seen around the Panther Falls area of Amherst County on Memorial Day. The investigation to date has led police to several dozen leads, and investigators are still asking for help from the public as they want to question several people who may have been in the area of Panther Falls the day Austin went missing.
