Grayson County Schools announced they will be closed on Monday, September 30 and Tuesday, October 1.

Due to the ongoing impacts of Helene, multiple schools will be closed or delayed on Tuesday, Oct. 1.

Severe weather will be impacting our area over the next two days, and many school districts are delaying arrival or closing altogether on Friday, Sept. 27.

Carroll County Public Schools consists of nine school sites and spent more than $191,000 on safety and security upgrades last school year.

Students in Carroll County will have full stomachs this school year.

Carroll County Public Schools Superintendent spoke before the county’s Board of Supervisors to request financial assistance for a multi-million dollar project; however, the Board decided to table to the discussion for now.

One famous Texas native is finding ways to help his community after the devasting winter storm that hit the state. McConaughey, along with his wife Camila Alves McConaughey, will host the event that is set to stream on his YouTube channel at 7 p.m. on March 21. CARROLL COUNTY, Va. – Carroll County Public Schools is the latest district to announce a full-time return to the classroom for students. All grade levels will be offered in-person five days a week starting March 15. Currently, the county operates 4 days a week with Wednesday as virtual. Dr. Mark Burnette, the County Superintendent, says all students have the option to remain virtual except those with failing grades. Carroll County has been fortunate to avoid any major outbreaks in their buildings, the superintendent says.

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. – UPDATELeaders with Carroll County Public Schools released a statement Monday night after two students were killed in a car crash over the weekend, while another suffered life-threatening injuries. School leaders shared that a fund has been created to help families with funeral costs. The driver, a 16-year-old male from Fries, was transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is being treated for life-threatening injuries. A 16-year-old girl from Hillsville and a 17-year-old boy from Galax both died at the scene. The Virginia State Police Wytheville Division Crash Reconstruction Team is assisting with the ongoing crash investigation.

CARROLL COUNTY, Va. – The coronavirus pandemic has shed light on many issues in our area, but perhaps one of the largest is Internet access. When schools had to quickly adapt to online classes, it became apparent how many students have no access to the Internet outside of school grounds. The Carroll County Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Mark Burnette, said it’s a mix of availability across the county, affordability for some families and the varying Internet speeds. About 25% of students are facing this issue currently and Burnette was hoping for some help from state lawmakers. Dr. Mark Church said about 35% of his students are struggling with accessibility with up to 17% located completely outside of a broadband coverage area.
