ROANOKE, Va. – One person is dead after a pedestrian crash in Northwest Roanoke Friday night. At about 8:30 p.m., Roanoke Police responded to a report of a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on the 5100 block of Williamson Road NW. Upon arrival, officers found a man lying in the roadway with what they said appeared to be serious injuries. Roanoke Fire-EMS transported the man to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries shortly after. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

James Brooks is charged with DUI manslaughter after a woman died in a crash at the intersection of Orange Avenue and Gainsboro Road NW. The victims told police that someone hit their car and then drove away, going toward downtown Roanoke on Orange Avenue, according to the police department. ROANOKE, Va – Thousands of healthcare providers at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital have received the COVID-19 vaccine. Since getting its first shipment of the COVID-19 vaccine three weeks ago, nearly 6,000 of Carilion’s 13,000 employees have gotten the first dose. More than 1,500 employees are on track to get their second dose of the Pfizer vaccine this week. But more vaccines have also caused some hurdles for Carilion, including finding ultra-cold storage for the Pfizer vaccine. While the vaccine distribution has been steady among staff, the number of COVID-19 patients being treated at the hospital continues to rise.

Crews are on the ground and in the water continuing the search for the missing man that was swept into the Roanoke River. DANVILLE, Va. – One driver is facing a traffic violation after a deadly crash in Danville on Wednesday evening. At about 5:15 p.m., a gray 2016 Range Rover was going west on West Main Street, making a left turn onto Park Avenue when it hit a 2015 Yamaha scooter going east on West Main Street. 61-year-old Peggie Nester was flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she later died, according to police. The driver of the Range Rover, Sam Sakellaris, 66, did not sustain any injuries and is charged with failure to yield on a left turn. Police are still investigating the crash.
