Itโs a partnership between Campbell County Public Schools, Lynchburg Community Action Group, and Smart Beginnings of Central Virginia which is part of United Way. AdSmart Beginnings received a $1.25 million grant from the commonwealthโs Early Childhood Foundation to reach underserved parts of the region. Gerin Martin, early childhood coordinator for Campbell County schools, says the new center is five years in the making, and itโs vital for children ages three and four to have a social experience.

According to the Campbell County Dept. of Public Safety, there are no public water contamination issues but residents are being asked to use water sparingly. The Staunton River at Brookneal will be at major flood level by 1 p.m. and will stay there until midnight Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Officials say that the Staunton River is set to remain at flood levels through Saturday.

A 48-year-old Brookneal man died on Saturday after a crash in Campell County, according to Virginia State Police. At 8:24 p.m., police responded to the crash on Route 648, about a half-mile south of Route 708. A 1999 Ford Mustang went off the left side of the road, hit a ditch, two concrete posts and bushes and then overturned, according to police. Clarence Roberts, the driver of the Mustang, was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. Below is a map of an approximate location of the crash:

Campbell County authorities are investigating after they say one person was shot and another was stabbed in Brookneal early Tuesday morning. Deputies reportedly received a call for a person with a gunshot wound on Charlotte Street in Brookneal around 4 a.m. Authorities say they then received a separate call for someone with a stab wound on Marshall Street. Both victims were taken to a hospital for treatment, according to the Campbell County Sheriffs Office. According to sheriffs office officials, there is no threat to the community.

Brookneal native and Liberty University graduate Josiah Singleton became the first ninja to go to the back half of the course-but unfortunately fell on the eighth and newest obstacle. By the end of the night, Josiah, known on the show as the Country Boy Ninja did not make the top 12 to move on to the next round. Even though Jody Freeman fell during the last obstacle he will advance to the national finals, and took the seventh spot of the night. Freeman was first inspired to try out for "American Ninja Warrior" when he was 12 years old after he watched the show on TV.
