Rezoning plans to balance Franklin County Schools

Leaders at Boones Mill Elementary gave their students a challenge before Thanksgiving: bring in at least 500 items for the food drive, and you can throw pies at Mrs. Shaver and Sergeant Grantham in front of the entire student body.

ROANOKE, Va. Young artists in the region are using their gifts to make pediatric patients smile. Cindy Petersen, executive director of the museum said this project benefits more than just pediatric patients. Working with motifs like landscapes, animals and different whimsical things and joyful, not only for the young patients at Carilion hospital but then also those young artists that created that and instilling kindness and empathy, said Petersen.

ROANOKE, Va.- - Some students in Franklin County will go home with new books this week. The Cummins Leadership Foundation donated 1,000 books to all 12 elementary schools in the county. Boones Mill Elementary received more than 60 books for students to choose from. The list of schools receiving books are: Boones Mill Elementary, Burnt ChimneyElementary, Callaway Elementary, Dudley Elementary, Glade Hill Elementary,Ferrum Elementary, Henry Elementary, Lee. M. Waid Elementary, Rocky MountElementary, Snow Creek Elementary, Sontag Elementary, and Windy GapElementary.
